Guide to navigating options at
imagekind
imagekind offers a range of options:
-sizes
-paper type, or canvas
-frame style, or no frame
-mattings, or no matting
It's easy to miss an option (leaving it to the default setting) at imagekind.
Navigating through the various options at imagekind for "Our Family Tree":
1. Size
2. Popular Configurations
3. Paper
4. Glazing
5. Frame
6. Matting

8. Special Instructions
DETAILS:
1. Size. The ideal sizes are the Large & the Medium. The best is the Large size (for ease of reading). The Small size probably requires a magnifying glass to read the names, and the Petite size might not be legible. (The original is about 29 x 40 inches, so the Grande & the Massive sizes are bigger than the original.) [I do not choose the sizes available. ImageKind automatically chooses sizes based on their paper sizes as well as image resolution.]
These are the sizes of the prints alone (if in a frame, then the measurement shown on the website includes the frame) height x width.
Petite: 10 x 7 inches
Small: 15 x 11 inches
Medium: 22 x 16 inches
Large: 32 x 23 inches
Grande: 48 x 35 (frame not available)
Massive: 60 x 44 (frame not available)
(The measurements of pictures on this website vary for each picture, because the proportions of height to width vary.)
2. Popular Configurations. (Located under the picture.) Here you choose unframed, or framed, the general style of the frame, or canvas option.
Choices:
Canvas,
Modern Lines (frame),
Contemporary White (frame),
Classic Baroque (frame),
Unframed Print.
(If you'd like it framed, you can browse the options and decide what's best for you, getting it framed here, or getting only the print here and then bringing it to your local framing store.)
3. Paper. I recommend "UltraSmooth Fine Art".
The drop-down arrow lists choices in price order. Click "Details" for a descriptions. (I ordered the sample paper kit, so I can tell you additional details.
-The cheapest one "Enhanced Matte" is clearly the brightest. It is brighter than any paper I compared it to at home. (I don't see the need for such brightness.) The description does not say acid-free, so probably after several years, it will no longer be the brightest of the papers.
-"UntraSmooth Fine Art" is the 2nd brightest.
-The most expensive of the papers, " Hahnemuhle Torchon" is highly textured.
-"Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl" has a slight shine. ("...Luster" is shinier, and "...Glossy" is the shiniest, smooth and glass-like.)
(The original artwork is not on shiny paper.)
4. Glazing. The type of glass or acrylic. Details describing the option at http://www.imagekind.com/faq.aspx?CID=5#FAQ_61 (bottom 2 topics on the page. If the location was changed after I typed this, then hold down Ctrl and press F, and search glazing.)
5. Frame. In step 2 you chose the general frame style "Popular Configuration" Now you choose within that group. First, choose color group, then choose frame style. Notice if there are more choices with arrows to the left and right of the choices shown.
6. Matting. You can choose a top, middle and bottom mat. First choose color group, then specific color. To choose no mat for any (or all) of the layers, choose Ø at the right of the color group choices, then click "None". Note there might be a default middle mat, so take note of its color and whether you want to include it. (I noticed that a top mat and a bottom mat each adds a significant raise in price, but adding a middle mat is far less of a raise.)
7. If there is a discount code at the top of the screen, then copy it to use at checkout.
The discount is usually (or always) a percentage off. (It's taken off of the price, so it is also taken off my commission.)
8. Special Instructions. Add a note in the "Special Instructions" box to the right of where you select the shipping method:
Please be careful when trimming, to include the additional 1/8 inch border on all sides.
Consider this:
1. Size: Large or Medium
2. Popular Configurations: Modern Lines
3. Paper: UltraSmooth Fine Art
4. Glazing: ___
5. Frame: Dark Brown -group, then Ansley Mahogany
6. Matting: Top mat: White group, then Cream. Middle mat: Green group, then Emerald.
